We caught sight of an idea in Martha’s Organizing Tip of the Day newsletter recently: a baby restaurant kit. We don’t yet have children, but we have plenty of friends with children, and have more than once witnessed an unruly child at a restaurant with bleary-eyed parents, helplessly watching their tot with that deer-in-the-headlights look about them. Why not pack a kit for your child that is restaurant-exclusive? This makes dining out seem like the treat that it is for you for your little one as well, and diverts their attention from flinging silverware and hollering for attention.
Here are some items that we think would be fun for a baby restaurant kit (this could also be a creative baby shower gift!)
- Utensils to inspire baby to feed him/herself
- Food-like teethers
- An extra t-shirt, just in case a big mess occurs
- Super-soft washcloths for wiping up the inevitable.
- A sustainable food tote to place all of your restaurant kit goodies in.
Brilliant. Thanks for the idea, Martha.
Also: toys. So essential.
